The Quick Fix Myth is Killing Our Spirits
The quick fix myth is killing us...
I am ALL for positive thinking. Our bodies ARE TOTALLY capable of miraculous things. But there's an idea out there that's killing our spirits. When you believe that your body can and will change overnight (and by overnight I mean, thinking you will drop 5-10 lbs in a week etc), you put off a lot of things (if you're anything like me, anyways). You put off buying clothes "until you reach your goal." You put off getting your hair done "until you lose 10 lbs." You. put. off. self. care. I do anyways. But let's define self care here. It is MORE than just working out ladies. Self care is all encompassing doing things for yourself that make you feel HUMAN. And the more we put off, the more we seclude ourselves, the more we seclude ourselves the less human we feel. And for me... the less feminine I feel.
There is something that can change overnight though...
I'm not saying that you can't reach your goals and that you can't do that quickly, I've done it. But it's GOOD TO KNOW when you're letting thoughts like "I've done it before in X amount of time, I can do it again..." slip in there and because of this you wait and wait and wait and then you're up against an unhealthy timeline to hit that goal weight. Meanwhile you've dropped into a depression because you haven't been taking care of yourself and then you either give up or WORSE... you do unhealthy things to reach a goal that will only backfire on you shortly after you get there. But here's the good news... there is something that can change overnight. YOUR ACTIONS. Actions can change overnight, even quicker, really, but bodies will change when they're ready. With time, consistency & SELF CARE that is a lifetime commitment.
“Actions can change overnight, even quicker, really, but bodies will change when they’re ready. With time, consistency & SELF CARE that is a lifetime commitment. ”
I know because I've been going through this lately...
See I've had this belief that this excess weight I've been carrying around can disappear rather quickly, so I've been putting off the things I listed above. I've not been fair to the body I am blessed with lately and because of that I've been killing my confidence little by little every. day. But no more. It doesn't have to be this way.
When you buy into the quick fix crap...
There's another part of this vicious cycle.
Running your life on the thought that you can wait to care for yourself because it'll only take a short time to "get your body back" leads to unhealthy binges in the direction of excess as well as the putting off direction mentioned above. You're going to be more likely to binge diet. binge exercise. binge shop. How many loved one's have you seen come on the healthy lifestyle scene all of the sudden logging in way more exercise in one day than you know they'll be able to maintain? Or announcing all the things they'll never do again? You see... for every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. For every restriction, there's an equal and opposite binge. We aren't meant to overdo things. We aren't meant to live in constant stress.
And why not disconnect the idea of self care for weight loss altogether...
The truth is we deserve to feel energized, light, and healthy no matter what the heck we weigh, don't we? I'm not here to tell you what to be motivated by, but I know when I don't at least dig deeper than a number...I'm not going to maintain anything. I'm going to find my finish line and pass out in front of HGTV. And deservedly so if I've been exercise binging while dieting myself to death, right??
So try this on for size mommas...there. is. no. finish line. Junk food depression is UNIVERSAL. We all feel like crap when we eat like crap. Lazybones depression is also universal. When we do nothing, we often feel nothing. These are one size fits most truths here that I personally want for NONE of us <3
And the same goes for living fully, joyfully & healthy. We universally feel better that way.
There is no getting "back" your body...
Actions can change in the blink of an eye, but there is no getting back your body. You've had it this whole time. And no matter your size... you deserve to be clothed, confident and taking care of yourself your entire life. Not just for a weight loss goal, where you then have to go completely bonkers doing life in a way that is completely not maintainable or based in reality.
Love your body NOW. And that means to do actions that are loving. Not conditional.
There is no quick fix...
There is no quick fix & with the right nurturing of yourself as you are, you'll probably see that there's nothing that even calls for fixing. I know we women are too hard on ourselves. I know a lot of us don't feel comfortable in our own skin. I know we all struggle at some point with our body image. I know that this mess of information I've laid out above is ALL things I've been through, am going through and just realizing as I stumble through this life of mine as a mom. There's nothing we can't do. But at what cost? Healthy living and self care is important because you are worthy of it as you are. With every step I take towards figuring this out... my confidence shines a little brighter. With every step I take to accept myself and love the body I have... I feel more and more like "me." We have to do NOW what we think we'd do WHEN we succeed at any goal we have. Right now I believe that's one of the keys to joyful living <3 Look alive mommas & free your spirit.
