Clean & Easy Peasy 6 Ingredient Bread

Loafing around.

I don't know if I can explain just how ecstatic I am that this loaf of bread actually came together. Seriously. The last and only loaf I ever attempted before this was better suited for a position as a brick in my landscaping than something I could actually eat, lol. I'll never forget... it was when I was going through my completely unhealthy version of vegetarianism stage. This is when I refused to eat meat for 2 years, but I'd happily go to Jack In the Box and order a Jumbo Jack, no meat, add cheese sticks, lol. ( yes...you read that right, insert embarrassed emoji here). But this was an attempt at something healthy. It was a recipe for "sunflower millet bread" and I was so going to nail it, but instead I #failedit & it's been about 15 years before I dared to try again, lol.

Anywho, on to our family loaf!! I got the recipe from Clean Eating Magazine and have already made it again & am going to whip up another loaf tomorrow! SCORE! You know it's good and totally doable if I am actually repeating the task! So I share...

Ingredients...

  • 1 and 3/4 cups warm water
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 1 tsp himalayan sea salt
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

How to whip it up...

I love to cook & bake with the kids. Now I want to squash this turd of a rumor that's out there that'll mess with your tender mom heart before I go any further...

Cooking with your kids does NOT, I repeat, does NOT mean that they will gleefully eat everything you make together. Maybe in some fairytale ending when mine are nearing their thirties I'm assuming this will finally come to fruition, but in the meantime... can we all agree to suck the joy out of the things we enjoy and let the expectations of it changing the little one's just go. I have decided to cook with my kids because I enjoy it, not for any other reason.

I have decided to cook with my kids because I enjoy it, not for any other reason.

So naturally when I offer one of my kiddos the opportunity to do something, the other suddenly wants to do the same exact job! Lol. My solution to this is held in the measuring cups my momma friends. My peaceful cooking experience comes from using the half cup when it calls for a whole cup and letting each of the kids split the duties right down the middle... so when I go into the official steps... remember that I'm going back & forth with each kiddo doing half the work. 3 cups becomes six times with the half cup and it may take an extra hour to make, but I don't do it for the quick, I do it for the family time & the peace. If I wanted to watch a boxing match some day, I could do it easily by just letting one of them do the flour and watch the other one go into Mike Tyson mode. (lol).

But seriously. Take my advice & slow it down & split the work & leave your expectations at the door & just have fun.

So let's get started for real this time...

  1. Mix the water, yeast & flour together.
  2. Let it rise (about 30 minutes) and roughly doubled in size.
  3. Combine the rest of the ingredients with your dough & knead (I did it by hand) until it's sticky.
  4. Let rise about 30 minutes.
  5. If you used a bread maker to knead your dough... go on ahead and plop your dough in a bread pan & into your preheated to 350 oven for 40 minutes. >>> If you kneaded by hand like us, continue to step 6 before baking.
  6. After your dough has been left to rise for 30 minutes, knead one more time and let rise 30 minutes again.
  7. Place in loaf pan & bake 40 minutes at 350.

We love this bread...

Seriously mommas. This bread has given me hope that I can bake. It has rekindled my love for baking with the kids. It has been denied by Clo (3 year old picky eater extraordinaire) but embraced by the rest of us! Lol. Oh Clo... when will your taste buds come around????

I love this community & THANK YOU for reading! Good luck mommas! You. Can. Do. This.

xoxo
